Victoria Clement has been named the Golden Apple Teacher of the Month. As an English teacher at Southeast Middle School, she emphasizes how much she learns from her students.
"My students have taught me that no one learns the same way or at the same pace. For some, concepts click right away, and they're ready to move on, while others need a different approach or strategy. I've learned to meet my students where they are, even if it means adjusting my lesson plans or spending extra time on a topic. I've become more comfortable with adapting my teaching to ensure they get what they need," she explains.
One of the greatest joys of teaching for Mrs. Clement is witnessing the moment when a student finally understands a concept. "I get excited with them—it's like a little celebration. They'll come to me saying, 'Miss Clement, I made a 100 on my test!' or 'I finally understand central idea!' Those moments remind me that I'm making a difference, and they motivate me to keep going."
Being nominated for the award by both her peers and students has made her feel truly appreciated. "It's amazing to work with colleagues who support and encourage you, and to have students recognize that as well. It reaffirms that I'm exactly where I'm meant to be."
